      @africamonetary

      Having Afreximbank physically present in the Caribbean offers more than financial services; it delivers a sense of institutional belonging and recognition to the Black diaspora.

      It’s a rare example of a major African institution making a bold, physical commitment to diaspora inclusion, thus potentially inspiring other cross-continental partnerships in education, technology, and innovation.

      Agreed! The arbitrary borders drawn during the Berlin Conference, without regard for ethnic, linguistic, or cultural considerations, have had lasting consequences on African political stability.

      Despite recent reforms, many African stock exchanges face low trading volumes and recent history of civil conflict and regional strife [ in some regions ], may deter investors local and international investors.

      In addition, inconsistent regulatory enforcement could erode investor confidence. Economic & political stability, including transparent and predictable governance will be critical for success.

      By aligning with regional initiatives like the AfCFTA and embracing innovative financial products, small/medium-size markets can re-position their economy’s which may serve as a catalyst for growth.

      Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita is often a misleading metric when evaluating a nation’s wealth and its distribution. For instance, countries like Libya and Algeria may exhibit relatively high GDP per capita figures due to their oil and gas production; however, this does not accurately reflect widespread prosperity. Instead, such wealth is frequently concentrated in the hands of a few, highlighting the inadequacy of GDP per capita as an indicator of equitable wealth distribution.

      This issue underscores the need for a re-evaluation of how Africa is perceived and analyzed. Relying on misleading statistics can obscure the real challenges faced by its populations. To truly attract investment, the focus should shift towards infrastructure development that benefits entire communities and promotes equitable growth. Targeted investments in sectors that alleviate poverty and enhance living standards are essential.

      The recent expansion of BRICS represents a powerful shift in the global economic landscape, highlighting the increasing influence of emerging economies in shaping international order.

      By adding new members, including energy-rich nations and regional powerhouses, BRICS has bolstered its potential as a formidable counterweight to Western-dominated coalitions like the G7. This growth emphasizes the importance of economic diversity and resilience, particularly for developing countries that seek alternative financing and trade mechanisms less dependent on the dollar.

      The inclusion of key players like the UAE, Iran, and potentially Saudi Arabia, strengthens BRICS’ role as an alliance capable of promoting multipolarity in international relations and creating a platform that respects the distinct needs and interests of its member countries.

      This expansion could facilitate a more balanced and equitable global economy, fostering cooperation on shared challenges like sustainable development, trade, and regional stability.

      While critics may argue that cultural authenticity is compromised by not casting a Nigerian actor, this risks falling into ‘cultural-essentialism’, where only those from a specific cultural background are deemed capable of telling or embodying its stories.

      In an interconnected, globalized world, such rigid boundaries undermine the richness of diasporic identities and the idea that African narratives can be shared across and beyond national borders.

      Elba’s participation demonstrates the evolving nature of African identity, where the continent’s stories are not bound by geography but can be shaped by the broader African diaspora.

      That said, the vitriol directed at Chidimma is archived for future generations of Nigerians, Africans and the Global Black Community to examine, study, internalize and determine the future direction of their relationship with the Rainbow Nation.

      Africa was instrumental to the end of the anti-apartheid struggle.
