Sidney Poitier: a life in pictures.
Sidney Poitier was born in Miami, United States on the 20th of February 1927.
The Bahamian American actor, director, and activist reshaped perceptions and cultures, broke the colour barrier in the U.S. film industry (back when no customs or pathways were established), paving the way for African American actors with starring roles in classics such as “To Sir, With Love” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”.
Poitier redefined roles that celebrated and represented the African American intellect, and excellence; rejecting parts that perpetuated racial caricatures and stereotypes.
