      Hi Charlotte,

I wanted to create this space so I can also share and listen to other Black folk going through perimenopause, menopause, or are post menopause.

I am about to become certified as a Menopause Coaching Specialist (February 2025). Over the past year, I have listened to scores of Black [most identified] women talk about their immense challenges during peri menopause and menopause. So many didn’t even realize they were going through it while others shared that their healthcare practitioner ignored them or downplayed that they were actually experiencing peri or meno symptoms. This one Black woman posted herself crying on Instagram that she didn’t understand what was happening to her. She was 50 and she said nothing was working as her weight changed despite her being a raw vegan. It was clear that she wasn’t being supported and was in intense distress, feeling alone.

So, I’m here to share what I’ve learned and also listen to those who may be struggling or those who have advice to offer (either anecdotal or evidence based).

Knowledge Sharing Tip 1: I learned that regular cardio-aerobic exercises are no longer going to suffice for making sure we enter this new phase of life with strength and endurance. Resistance training 3 times a week is key, fused with mobility, stretching and flexibility exercising. As our estrogen levels drop, bone and muscle density drop, and the key to maintaining and building our bone and muscle is, like a wrote, resistance training AND increasing our daily protein drastically based on our current weight. Protein is essential and most people going through peri or meno phase ARE NOT GETTING ENOUGH.

Anyone have any tips they would like to share?
